Accessibility
Built for access. Honest about what is left to check.
Adjustments are the starting point here, not an add-on. Every setting below is one tap away inside the app and takes effect at once.
Settings every pupil can change
- Text size
- Small, normal, large and largest.
- Typeface
- Standard, or Atkinson Hyperlegible for clearer letter shapes.
- Theme
- Light, dark, or matched to the device.
- Contrast
- A high-contrast option for every screen.
- Calm mode
- Removes every animation and every sound. The device’s own “reduce motion” setting is respected too.
- Answer sounds
- On or off, separately from everything else.
- Focus sound
- Optional white, pink or brown noise. Always off until the pupil starts it.
- Language
- Menus and buttons in English, Polish, Romanian, Urdu and Arabic, with right-to-left layout where the language needs it.
How the learning is designed
- Questions have a Read aloud button, so reading is never the barrier to showing what you know.
- Tutor mode teaches before it tests: key words, the method, worked examples, then practice with a hint and a second go.
- Mock exams can be untimed, and the arrangements a pupil used are written onto the evidence sheet.
- What comes back, and when, is decided by how well it is remembered — not by a deadline.
- It installs on a phone or tablet from the browser, so there is no app store account to set up.
What has been checked
- Automated checks against WCAG 2.2 A and AA (axe-core) on every public page and sign-in page at phone and desktop width, and on the pupil experience in light, dark and high contrast. These checks only catch part of what matters, which is why the list below exists.
- The pupil experience, the sign-in pages and the front page are run through an automated browser test.
- The front page is checked for sideways scrolling at phone width.
- Calm mode and the device’s “reduce motion” setting switch off the whole celebration layer.
What has not been checked yet
- An independent audit against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA. Until that is done we do not claim to conform.
- Testing with screen readers, switch access, voice control and magnification on real devices.
- Testing with pupils with SEND, their families and the staff who support them.
- A native-speaker review of the Polish, Romanian, Urdu and Arabic translations.
